Unfortunate honeymooners Jill & Liz Monroe-Silt, found themselves in the middle of a storm, literally, when they chose the gorgeous Phlaplos Island as their destination of choice.
“We were thinking of the Isle of Dild originally, but Liz just loves dolmades and calamari rings and chips, so we though, okay what the heck, let’s head to Phlaplos, even though its the “off” season and the weather wasn’t as lovely as summer”, said a shaken Jill Monroe-Silt
The girls got more adventure than they bargained for when hurricane “Pat Butcher” struck at 9am, just as the girls were sitting down to a full english breakfast in their gorgeous caravan.
“The wind had begun to blow crazily the night before but we’d had a rather large amount of Retsina over dinner so we just fell asleep. When we woke up I was on the ceiling of the caravan. I thought, you know, usually I can handle my drink but something must have gone really wrong, perhaps I’d had some Ouzo chasers. Anyway, I quickly relaised that I was literally on the ceiling of the van because it was upside down” said a traumatised Liz.
therefore the girls, both lesbians since 1981, were trapped inside.
Liz, having tried to open the door found that it was jammed and therefore the girls, both lesbians since 1981, were trapped inside.
A quick call to Jill’s mother in Berkshire, now alerted to their terrible plight, informed the English police who in turned called the Greek police who arrived the three days later to free the unfortunate lesbians. The girls, who had only just arrived on the island, having towed their caravan from Stoke Newington by Ford Fiesta, checked into The Sapphic Seagull Women’s Only Pension to enjoy the rest of their honeymoon.
Jill, a social worker and accomplished part time poet, has written a poem about their adventures whilst trapped in the caravan.
